The Southern California Viola Society is pleased to announce that its annual Viola Mini-Congress will be held Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25 on the beautiful campus of California State University at Long Beach. Helen Callus, violist with Anne Epperson, pianist will be featured in recital on Saturday night; Michael Kimber will perform his original compositions; Dan Thomason will lecture and perform on his viola d'amore. Society members will perform and workshops and demonstrations will be presented by instrument makers throughout and beyond the southland.Sunday night we plan more unaccompanied performances, and a multiple viola event where everyone can participate, playing some unique arrangements by Joel Lish exclusively for violas ... plan to bring your viola to the event!
Based on the enthusiastic response at last year's mini-congress, we will repeat the exhibition and demonstration of instruments on Sunday. Makers of violas and bows from throughout the state will be represented. Anyone thinking of a new viola or bow, this is a great place to start.
This event is the culmination of a great deal of work by your board members, and this year's mini-congress promises to be better than ever! Put it on your calendar today!
